May 27, 2006 :

Oh my! It has been way too long since I posted any kind of update about the site. I had posted some updates previously about moving my domain hosting, updating and getting some audio links to work from the site as well as some general editing. I didn't pay the monthly domain hosting fee in time and lost everything. So I will have to redo the audio streaming stuff. I at least wanted to get the site from the last saved version back up and running, which it is. I don't know if anyone reads this stuff but if you do, no - the site isn't dead.

March 22, 2005 :

Well, well, fancy that - Another log entry, up way too late again, of course. Been trying to do some site housekeeping and removing dead links etc.

Also did some configuration work on the moonbase media/web box here. Nothing fancy really, I have it dual-booting Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux (Warty Warthog release). I get lazy with having to do so many little tweaks on the linux box to get it to serve web pages and also providing ftp access for times that I am away from my place/people to upload/download stuff to.

Gigapark-2 below:

Hell, I have to make script tweaks just to share files over the local moonnet network - ugh!!!

Mind you, I do this stuff for a living, just kinda think that if the average user that just wants stuff to work has to dabble this much with their machines that Linux has a ways to go before it "dominates" the desktop - LOL.

Personally, I'd recommend Mac OS X to anyone that doesn't want to do windows.

Fixed the radio links to stream from moonnet local too, mind you I still have to put up some stuff for the on-demand link, but the moonnet stream will give ya a mix set done by yours truly - Trust me, I'm not a DJ - LOL

Yes, I know I lead such a boring life.

March 12, 2005 :

Pic above of the missee kat, with minnee kat in the background.

Doing a show saturday night in philly too, check this out for details:

tbtmo news

Other than that, just enjoying not having to worry about going to work for the weekend.

February 19, 2005 :

Discovered that my guestbook had gotten hacked. What did i do? I killed the guestbook for now. Will have to redo soon, promise. Will make sure it is the latest version, maybe that one will have adressed whatever vulnerabilities there were in the previous one, or I'll have to do something, better password-wise etc..

February 16, 2005 :

Well, it's a new year and I figured I had better post something to let people know that the site is not dead. I thought I actually had made a post to here back in July, but for some reason it didn't show up or I just imagined that I had. Mind you, it's not beyond the realm of reason that I didn't do an update. I forget these things sometimes. I'm that person who will take their glasses off, put them on the coffee table and then start freaking out when I can't find them after 10 minutes of looking. Those are the times I say to myself "idiot!". C'est la vie.

Music-wise other than composing some 6 tracks of dubious quality back in the summer and one last month ("spin cycle" is the name of that track), my musical motivation has been kinda slack. I did go out this past sunday nite to check out some bands at The Fire over in Philly. Good stuff too. A mix of laid back drone-jam rock and rock-pop types. It was a nice change, reminded me of the people and friends I used to hang with about 10-12 years ago when the shoegazer type stuff was popular with a lot of people I know. I look back now and am grateful for the exposure I was given to such. Making me wish I had my bass back, or better yet getting a new one.

Check a couple of them out, if you want:

Collette Carter
The Jane Anchor

Oy! 4 more years of bushworld :(
I just hope we can survive it.

Keep looking, more to come and possibly a new track for you too!

April 24, 2004 :

Another intermittent update of the moonnet.org for yas. Hmnn, let's see what's happened since I last posted the goods here.

1. Got a new laptop with uncle sugar's generous offer to return money I overpaid them. I got an iBook G3 800 on clearance from CompUSA in Mount Laurel. Word of advice, CompUSA sucks for buying computers from. Apple can be a bit of a pain about stuff too, but the machine works great and am very happy with it.

2. Played a short set back on the 10th of April at LaTazza, opened for I am Robot and Proud and Randomnumber, both people currently on tour. Defintely good stuff.

3. Still playing around with trying to make a good DVD of the first electropark show back from May '95.

I guess I would really not make a good "blogger" - lol. Oh well....

February 10, 2004 :

G5 or Vaio - You tell me who ripped off whom this time? (*wink*) (hint, Sony had this style of case in late 2002 - at least from what I remember)

Not to sound like a "broken record" (that is if people still remember vinyl), I know it's been a while since I've posted any updates to the site.  There hasn't been much news on the home front from yours truly.  Making music, peeking around too much on ebay and doing some minor updates/upgrades to the moonbase.

Speaking of the moonbase, I took the plunge and got a new router - 802.11b wireless to be exact, and I have to say - very nice. (even with .11b being the slower WiFi spec)  Been also contemplating making an addition to the moonbase computer family.

In doing some web searches, I must admit to being "shocked" at how Mac hardware drops like a rock with regards to price when being sold aftermarket/used.  Example - I found a gentleman out in California (San Fran to be exact, or in that area) who sells Power/iBooks.  I saw a listing on his site for a G3 iBook (vintage 2002) for around $650.  This was no slouch of a notebook either.

A similarly specced (if that is such a word) PC notebook would be around the same price as well.  That's always been the thing with Apple in my mind.  Overpriced and overhyped.   They make fine machines, I just don't need all the hoopla with it.  The quickest way to kill my interest in anything is "overhype".  In case anyone reading this is an Apple fan - no, I'm not hating on Apple.  I just try to keep a realistic frame of mind with regards to technology.  It's not how it looks, It's how it works that matters. (To be fair, Sony also gets me like that too - cool gadgets, but OUCH! Hurt me with that price, why don't you)

Just don't get me started about the iPod.  I think it's funny how everyone seems to think Apple invented the mp3 player, while forgetting about Diamond Multimedia and Archos - the companies that FIRST marketed and sold flash memory and hard-drive based mp3 players - Long live the Rio PMP 300 baby, the FIRST hardware mp3 player.

As for iTunes - tried it, been there and done that with MusicMatch and WinAMP, and i can still do what i want with my music instead of it being in a "proprietary" audio format that puts restrictions on it.

I've resurrected a P2 350MHz system and am using it as my home based net server.  It's also running my Shoutcast based moonnet radio, to do some net radio experimentation.  (disclaimer - Anybody working for Comcast, I'm not sharing any files and it's a private stream for my own use) I should warn people that this station will be up or down depending on if I am needing to use "Megapark-1" for other purposes.  You can click on the radio page to see if it's up or not.

Other than these little tidbits and musings, I can't really think of much more to include in this latest log update for the site.

November 1, 2003 :

Yeah, I know - It's been a while since the last site update. Summer has come and gone once again, and with it's passing yours truly has suffered a loss.

My cat, Princess, who I had for almost 10 years passed away last weekend. She had gotten sick (stopped eating the previous Thursday) and her condition got worse as the weekend approached. I attempted in vain to get a vet to see her, seems like they get quite booked up, and if you want emergency care for a pet, the cost is extremely high. So I sat with her and her companion kitty (Minnee) that I had just gotten last friday until she passed early morning on Sunday, the 26th of October. Later on in the day I took her to my uncle's place to bury her. I did not expect to have the reaction I did to her passing. She was my friend, and one of the sweetest cats as well.

From the "Ancient History" department :

A couple of years ago I converted the first live performance of electropark from video tape to digital video on my old P233 system. It was choppy as hell because I compressed the raw .avi to something I could fit on a CD-R (make that 3 CD-R's, one for each song I had performed). Last year when I got my hardware DVD player, I made a VCD out of that show. Digging up the old video, I recompressed it using DiVX and have posted one of the songs on the site. Yours for the download if you're interested in some archival footage of the 1st generation electropark sound *wink*

electropark - bloom

July 17, 2003 :

Finally updated the story page to reflect an actual mythology to the legend that is yours truly (pretentious, aren't I?). If you take it too seriously you deserve to be smacked.

From the "Going Lefty again" department :

I blundered across the BBC News web page yesterday and took note of their reader feedback area. I guess they work it with a "question of the day" kind of thing. So, I posted a response like others, but I don't think mine made the cut. Here's what I posted :

"Quite frankly, the majority of my fellow Americans who bought Bush's rhetoric hook, line and sinker are now seeing what happens when a late 19th/early 20th century view on the world is attempting to be applied in the beginning of the 21st century. We live in an interdependent world and if not for the exploitative nature of capitalism, we wouldn't have to deal with dictators, terrorists and multi-national corporations all trying to exert their control over the masses. (Yes, we have a dictator in the USA as well, not to pick on any one country)

The warmongers here will be our undoing, and I do hope the good people of the UK do the right thing and sack Blair.

Thank you."

May God (or whatever your personal deity may be) have mercy on my soul for speaking blasphemy against our "highness" himself, one GW Bush.

July 9, 2003 :

After noticing that I only had under 5 megabytes of web server file space left to use, I decided to get rid of the dual bitrate playlists and created a 32kbps playlist with different songs. So there you go, more electropark and spintronic goodies for all.

July 8, 2003 :

Just figured I'd post a pic of the "mythical" moonbase studios. As you can see it's all in a little corner of my place, where the dining room should be. Too bad the rest of my apt isn't as neat as this, but I'm working on it.

June 7, 2003 :

Ha! My birthday - Trivia for those who end up taking a peek at the site. Who knows, if I see you sometime and ask you if you know when it is, I may give you a treat - or not. Added the "misc." link on the main menu to give a listing of the equipment and software I use/have used over the years. I'm sure you will be impressed at my superior technology (LOL - not). I may end up making moonnet just a browser window with no controls other than the close/resize gadgets (for whatever OS you're using to browse these pages). I haven't forgot about doing a discography as well. I just feel kind of weird about doing that because it's not like I've put out a full length of my own work, but I have been doing my own thing for a while and I do have compilations of my old stuff that I'm slowly recording into and burning onto CDs for anyone that might have an interest in such.

April 10, 2003 :

Quite a bit has happened since my last entry and update to this log. I'll not go into the world changing stuff here. Maybe some other time. With regards to moonnet though - as you may notice, or if you didn't know, I am no longer running it from a home based web server. It is on a web host now, computercommune. In addition to going with a "real" web hosting solution I have redesigned the pages. I know some will decry my decision to use some Internet Explorer specific tricks, but IE is what I use. If you have a problem with some of the specifics, in particular the use of "iframes" then let me know. I guess I will have to offer a non-browser specific version of these pages. I have also attempted to make use of style sheets to save me from doing some repetitive actions. It is all like really basic stuff, nothing fancy. Since I have the webspace, I also made the moonnet radio content accessible by both modem and broadband. At the present time I am back to dial-up, so that gave me extra motivation to do both playlists.

August 22, 2002 :

Not really all that much going on this weekend, quite boring really. I rummaged around the place and found a tape of Seefeel's "Polyfusia" EP that I had copied from a friend back in the day. "Plainsong" is one of my fave seefeel tracks, so as I recorded it from tape and cleaned it up, inspiration struck me to do a cover of it. I made a loop of that gorgeous washed out spacey intro and built a "techno-ish" beat excursion around it. If you're interested feel free to download it here and please let me know what you think.

plainsong (spintronic 2k2 mix)

July 27-28, 2002 :

After much wrangling over this weekend, I converted my server from Win 2K to SuSE 7. Figured this would be a good idea seeing that I need to get some more legit Linux experience. I actually had to install SuSE twice, but it only took like 45 mins to an hour to install. Apache is pretty much Apache, whether it be Win 32 or Unix/Linux flavors. I'm behind a hardware firewall now too so we'll see how that goes.

Discography (LOL) coming soon - promise!

July 7, 2002 :

Placing 2 links here on the log page because I want to make sure that people check them out. One is a humorous one that was sent to me a while back, while the other is relevant within the realm of controversy surrounding the whole file downloading/sharing business. Please check them out :o)

May 5, 2002 : Woo Hoo!! Finally updating moonbase after a long delay. To update, well - I put the "cursed" Windows XP (XP Pro to be exact - none of that "Home" shit, thank you very much..) on my main machine here (GigaPark-1) and just got around to re-installing Dreamweaver. I'm thinking of adding a page listing the nitty-gritty of my setup for all tha geeks out there - trust me, it's real ghetto, so....

Other than that, I added a link for Team Techno and am thinking of ditching or at least modifying the flash "splash" page. Stay tuned!

April 7, 2002 :

Over the last month I have added some tracks to the radio station. Not much else other than that, but I figured I should make an entry just to let passersby know that the site hasn't gone stale. Also thinking of adding a history of the music projects I've been involved with sometime soon, so keep your eyes on the "stories" page.

February 19, 2002 :

After battling with grasping a basic understanding of Flash, I created a "splash" page which plays a 15 second audio clip from my newest song, "There Goes The Neighborhood" and then switches to the main moonbase site. PHEW!!

February 18, 2002 :

Changed email address.

Also added browser transition effects

OOooOOoOOooo *wink*

NOTE: I do believe this functionality only works with MS IE6, so if you don't see the transitions, that's why.

January 21, 2002 :

Fixed problem with .m3u stream playlist. Turns out my web server needed a chkdsk. My main machine kept on locking up whenever I tried to transfer mp3's to my media directory.

Also added new version I made of r-dronefunk to the radio station.

Picture below of the 1st generation moonbase:

January 15, 2002 :

Below, yours truly from August 2k1 outside of galactique after puttin on tha hitz as spintronic earlier. Also added some linkage.

January 13, 2002 :

Minor tweaks to moonbase net. Added counter (java) courtesy of counter.bloke.net and centered moonbase image. Will add a couple more songs to moonbase radio as well.

January 10, 2002 :

Added content and made initial design of moonbase net. For the curious, I'm running this thing from my old P233 box w/Win2k Pro.

To the hackers out there, please have mercy on me - There's nothing of value here except for me to have some sort of web presence independent of my ISP, who doesn't give shit for webspace. I may set up an FTP server in the near future, but definitely not IIS, cause it sux.

I'm running Apache for my http server. It's relatively compact (unlike certain web servers which I mentioned previously). I'm up way too late doing this, but I got on a roll and figured I'd add some content to this place.
